Can you tell us a bit about you and how you got into writing?
I can remember writing stories and poetry in middle school, and I’ve been an avid reader all my life. I started writing in my adulthood as a hobby, often to cope with insomnia; but I only started publishing my work a year ago.
Did you always know you wanted to be an author?
Not really. I’ve always been an introverted person, and traditional publishing requires authors to have a thick skin. Writing requires baring the soul, and publishing invites absolute strangers to come armed with razors and shards of glass, truly. Knowing how much of myself is in my stories and therefore on display is dizzying. If I didn’t have a family to hustle for, I wouldn’t do it.
If you could have dinner with any character from your book, who would you choose?
This question is beautifully ironic because I write what is often referred to as “Why choose”... lol! My characters live in a rugged landscape where life is hard, and the desire to have a wife is tempered by the daunting effort that survival requires; I based my ideas on the premise of women as a precious resource, and that’s the reason that my five MMCs only have one FMC to take care of.
So, I would hate to have to choose just one, clearly!
If I had to pick, though– I would let Bear take me to the place in book four, where they speak his native language and play mancala instead of dice… he emerged as a reader favorite in book one, and adding layers to his character was both fun and daunting, because I wanted his fans to love him as much as I did.
Keep is available on KU, and I do free book promos every Saturday. ♡
Do you have any specific writing rituals?
I do most of my writing on my phone, and I’ll write anywhere that inspiration strikes… but my favorite place to write is in bed, while everyone else is asleep– all I really need is quiet.
Can you give us a hint about any current or future projects you’re excited about?
Of course! I’m at an exciting point right now because I’ve just finished the five-book core worldbuilding series of my fantasy universe, and now I’m looking toward the future as I consider new projects.
I had some material that didn’t make it into the main series, so the next thing I’m publishing is called Throw for Top; it’s a MM novella that begins when Wil and Bayn meet and goes on to tell the story of Bayn marrying Lila from Wil’s perspective. I’m really looking forward to sharing this project with fans of the series because Wil × Bayn was mostly off-page in book one, and Wil wasn’t going to let Lila see how much it hurt him to give Bayn up; but it did.
In Throw for Top you get to see a more raw and gritty side of Wil, with more MM spice than the main books had; I’m releasing the beta draft one chapter per day in June, for pride month, and the final version will publish as an ebook later this year.
Preorder Throw for Top here.
I’m working on a second MM novella with similar goals for July; that one is titled Call me Gray and it’s told from Nik’s perspective; Bayn has a warbrother in the books who is never named and Call me Gray explains why Bayn can’t tell us more about him.
Go follow her and say hi! Tell her the Lovestruck Reader sent you! 😉
