Friday Feature: Vina Kent

Vina Kent was born in Santa Clara, California to two ethnically different parents, grew up in San Jose, California, and later relocated with her family to Georgia in 1994 after her parents death.

Because writing was such a love of Vina's she went back to writing after getting married and starting a family. She began writing short poems all of which she submitted for contests and won awards for from the International Society of Poets.

Eventually Vina began writing more non-fiction and took on writing for local papers, magazines and soon started writing features. She has interviewed celebrities for magazines and written on topics ranging from wine, politics and parenting to domestic violence. Vina has written for the Examiner and Yahoo, Coweta Living and several other print and online outlets.

It was over all Vina's love for fantasy that led her to writing her most recent book series and she continues to write her series as well as screenplays.

Please welcome, Vina Kent!

Can you tell us a bit about you and how you got into writing?

I started writing from a very early age. Matilda is the book that just sparked it all for me, reading and writing. All through school I’d win awards for my writing and I even had one of my teachers in 8th grade call the local paper and have them come do an interview with me over a paper I wrote. From there I just kept going. Once I became a mom, I started teaching my kiddos early on about reading and writing. And now they even have their own libraries and have been working on books of their own too.

Did you always know you wanted to be an author?

I always knew it was something I wanted to do. I wrote a lot of poetry after becoming a mother and submitted my work to several contests and ended up winning quite a few, then got my poetry published in a book alongside other writers. So it’s been a journey for me.

If you could have dinner with any character from your book, who would you choose?

I honestly would have to choose Uncle Stefanus and anyone who reads my book will see why.

Do you have any specific writing rituals?

I have to get my music on and just start writing in my journal first, then my creativity comes out and I feel I can write for hours, or until someone interrupts me. lol.

Can you give us a hint about any current or future projects you’re excited about?

Well Mira is book 1 and so there will be more books to come in the Supernatural Assassin series. But I’m also working on a crime thriller too.

Go follow her and say hi! Tell her the Lovestruck Reader sent you! ðŸ˜‰
