Friday Feature: Brianna Malotke

Let's welcome Brianna Malotke who writes under "Tori Fields" for her romance. No Cliffhangers. No Cheating. Only a beautiful happily ever after. My kinda girl!!! 😍 I can't wait to check her stuff out!

1.       Can you tell us a bit about you and how you got into writing?

·         My name is Brianna Malotke and I write romance under the pen name of “Tori Fields.” I write a lot of poetry and horror pieces as well. I’m based in the Pacific Northwest and run the Horror Writers Association's Seattle Chapter. My background is in apparel & costume design. When I’m not reading or writing, I like to box or go to dance classes. Movement really helps me focus better. I have two rascally orange cats and a small dog that love to disrupt my days.

I would say all the way back in high school is when I really fell in love with poetry and writing. I’ve always loved reading and during high school I had some really amazing English & Language teachers that helped me find my voice and writing style for poetry. Then in college I had a handful of various writing internships for fashion magazines and websites. After college I continued writing but it was for work and not for fun. It wasn’t until about 2019 that I really decided to write for fun but also seek publication. It's sort of snowballed ever since. I now have a few poetry collections out or coming soon and my romance novella series, Sugar & Steam, is continuing to grow.

2.      Did you always know you wanted to be an author?

·         Not in the traditional sense. I’ve always been a writer to some degree. Whether it was just working on poetry for myself or as a job, such as travel writing or product descriptions. It took a few years before I decided to seek publication for my poetry. After that started, I decided to aim higher and actually finish some projects. This is how the world of Sugar & Steam came about. I’m still in awe that I’m a full-blown author with my name on the cover of multiple books.

3.       If you could have dinner with any character from your book, who would you choose?

·         Tough! Okay, out of the four books in the Sugar & Steam series, I am going to say a dinner with Jake Barlow’s grandmother. I feel like a meddling and gossipy grandma would be a delightful dinner guest. You can find her in Gingerbread Hearts

4.      Do you have any specific writing rituals?

·         It’s probably my costume and apparel background, but I always make mood boards for my different projects. It can be a collage in Canva, printed and glued images on a board on my wall, or just a board in Pinterest. I’m a visual person and having the mood boards help me immerse myself back in the different projects.

5.       Can you give us a hint about any current or future projects you’re excited about?

·         I’m really excited for Pampered in Paris to be released on July 25th! I’ve always loved traveling to France and was even lucky enough to participate in a Writer’s Residency at the Chateau d’Orquevaux in France. The novella is full of comical language mishaps, a summer fling, and some of my favorite parts of Paris. I can’t wait for it to be out in the world.

Go follow her and say hi! Tell her the Lovestruck Reader sent you! 😉
