Welcome Alexa! Alexa is writing cinnamon roll heroes and bad girl heroines across all of space and time! Pretty cool, huh? Let's chat!
Can you tell us a bit about you and how you got into writing?
I'm a lifelong romance fan who lives in the Los Angeles area and bounced between a few different types of writing (including journalism and screenwriting) before returning to romance fiction. I joined my local chapter of Romance Writers of America around 2016 and published my first short story in an anthology from New Romance Cafe Publishing in 2021. I have three novellas available on Amazon -- two Regency and one fantasy romance -- and I'm currently a part of two different anthologies, Deity Bound from New Romance Cafe Publishing and The Regent's Menagerie Vol. 2 from an anthologist in Australia, Ebony Oaten.
Did you always know you wanted to be an author?
I did always know I wanted to write. I wrote my first short story about a family of fish when I was about six years old and remember being very upset that the photocopier did not make a color copy of it. (I grew up in Ye Olden Days before color copiers and printers were commonplace.) I bounced between fiction, nonfiction, and screenwriting for years before I finally decided to settle down with romance.
If you could have dinner with any character from your book, who would you choose?
I would love to have dinner with my heroine Junia and her whole family from Mishaps and Majors. I love their tight bond and how supportive they are of each other as they make their way in a new country during the Regency Era.
Do you have any specific writing rituals?
I need more writing rituals! One thing I do is look for nature sounds on YouTube to use as background music while I write or brainstorm. For my otter story in The Regent's Menagerie Vol. 2, I used one called "Bluebell Woods" and it really put me in the right frame of mind to write a story set in 19th century rural Yorkshire.
Can you give us a hint about any current or future projects you’re excited about?
After indie publishing several novellas, I'm currently doing major revisions on my full-length novel in preparation for sending it out to a publisher on request. I'm hoping to get that done by the end of November so I can get my 2025 short stories for New Romance Cafe Publishing done on time!
